Due to the barriers and lack of support that queer youth encounter combined with unceasing anti-LGBTQ legislation, higher proportions of LGBTQ youth struggle with their mental health and attempt suicide at higher rates than their cisgender, heterosexual counterparts. According to The Trevor Project, 40% of LGBTQ youth seriously considered suicide in 2020. The Trevor Project answers the call to end this crisis by providing 24/7 access to trained volunteers and staff equipped at de-escalating, supporting, and connecting contacts with queer-affirming resources. In addition to their crisis services, The Trevor Project also works towards equality and support for LGBTQ youth through peer support, education and public awareness, research, and advocacy.
