For the last 20 years Jo has been a master of the slash career… one part performing songwriter and one part psychotherapist. Jo became both at exactly the same time and cannot imagine one without the other. Whether recreating old classics or performing her original songs in her deeply confessional and comic styles, Jo’s music stands original while always reflecting her love of American roots music. Her eclectic writing and performance fuses elements of various modern and traditional folk music, Delta and electric blues, roots rock, classic and alt-country, garage rock, surf and swing. She has been called the “United States of Americana.” And she will move between light-hearted and funny, through dark corners, and well into sincere gratitude. She has performed on many stages including NPR’s “A Prairie Home Companion” and the Kennedy Center Millennium Stage. She is the founding member of the all-women old-time band Uncle Earl, and she presently performs with the all-women group, Stella! as well as her own group, Jo Serrapere & the LaFawndas. Jo is very excited to bring to North Star Lounge songs from her most recent CD releases, “The Beautiful Ones Vol. 1 & 2,” joined by some of her favorite musicians.
“I might take a train, I might take a plane, but if I have to walk, I know I'm gonna see Jo Serrapere again. Like anybody else who might make you laugh and cry in the same song, she's too good to pass up.” — Dave Marsh, music critic, author of Born to Run: The Bruce Springsteen Story and former editor of Creem & Rolling Stone magazines.
