Since his first nationally televised performance on CBS when he was 10 years old, Derek Self has played rock clubs, Lion’s Clubs, backyards, front yards, weddings, funerals, basements, rooftops, and living rooms. He was a contestant on The Voice and has been featured in the New York Times and Chicago Tribune.
His debut album, Self Discovery, starts with a road trip out West and ends back home: telling the story of his parents the day before he was born in a small Indiana town.
Drawing on rock, folk, Americana, and classical influences, his debut album celebrates the thresholds that make life interesting. Co-produced by Jordan Donica (Hamilton alum, 2023 Tony Award nominee, and star of the CW’s Charmed) the album features a band from around the country–a group of strangers who lived together for a week to bring this music to life.
